Interview

Interview
My friend and I hunter interview some kids at our school. The questions we asked them were about self-image and questions that would help us figure out what teens of today are going through. We asked seniors through freshmen
Questions
1. What does self-image mean to you?
2. Do you feel pressured to dress and act like your friends and/or people around you?
3. What do you think of people completely different than you?
4. Have you notice others being influenced by society? And in what ways?
Let me tell you readers, that we got a lot of good answers that made me think about things I never really thought about, and will as well make you think.
The first person we interviewed was
Kaila (senior): who when we asked if we could interview her she got excited and said” of course!” but when asked the first question: what does self image mean to her, she automatically said “ aw dang this sucks.” As you can see the first reaction to self images is negative. The rest of her answer to the first question was “self-image means to me, the way that someone carries themselves, and the way that another sees them..swagggg.” when we asked her if she ever feels pressured to dress and act like her friends and/or others around her, she answered “ No, because I feel that everyone should have individuality” which I totally agree with. I believe that everyone should never or should seek out the same pleasure, or happiness. When we asked her what she thought about other people completely different from herself, she looked over at her friend and started laughing, and said “do you want me to be honest?” and of course we said yes. She started off by saying that “she is tolerate of other people different from herself, but at times she miss judges people by their style.” She was speaking in all honesty, it is hard for someone to tell others that they think that, or believe in that, and she said it. Many people are like this, at time I could be that way. When we asked her the final question if she noticed others being influenced by society, and in what ways, she said “yea, I feel that there are a lot of people who take things from magazines and television and use that towards their self-image.” Which is true, you look around and you see others trying to dress like others in movies, televisions, and trying to make that their self-image.
When we asked a freshmen boy what he thought about other people completely different than him, he said he thought that they were, “irritating”, why do you think he thought this? Now I’m not trying to put down what he said, but why would he think that people who dress, act, and look different than him are “irritating”? They are human, in a way they are kind of like him, right? Also when we asked him what he thought self-image meant, he said that it meant “looking good and making sure people see you for who you are.” do you really think that self images is all about looks? I think it is, so many people of today believe that self-image is all about looks, which is true. But should it only be that? What about what is in the inside, how someone presents oneself, but not by looks, but by attitude and personality.
We asked another senior but this time a boy. When we asked him what self image meant to him, he said “The vibration determined by ones attitude and personality.” Which is definitely true, not only does media change the way one dresses, but it also changes the way one acts, and ones personality. He is one who also does not care what others are wearing, he is going to be and dress the way that he wants to be. When we asked him if he has noticed others being influenced by society, he commented, “certainly, it’s the way that girls put on their make-up, the way that I put on my socks, they way that that one kid is holding his sweater, its everywhere, and it hypnotizes everyone around us.”
This interview that my friend hunter and I did, really helped us, and made us think outside and really get the feeling of what others think, since everyone has their own thoughts, and they should!!!!

are you just like someone?

Is there really such thing as a “one of a kind person”? Today there is around 360 million people living in the United States , and last year there was an estimation of around 6,602,224,175 living in the world. That is crazy! Our world is filled with so many people. Do you really think that there is one individual? I think that the reason why so many people want to be like someone is because there is so many people living today. There is no such thing as coming up with a new fashion, so everyone just dresses alike. You go to a high school filled with teenage girls and boys. What is the first thing you see? You see that the majority of the girls are wearing the same or somewhat the same clothes, and you see the majority of the boys are wearing the same clothes or shoes. We all look different but we all dress and act the same. Why is this? There are so many people wanting to be like some person, either famous, or someone popular at their school. They want to dress like them act like them, they wan to basically be them. I do not really think that this is a good problem. If everyone is trying to be someone else then there will never be any unique people. I personally think that everyone in this world is different, we are not meant to be JUST LIKE SOMEONE. Of course there are going to people who are a lot alike. They like the same stuff, play the same things, kind of dress alike. But we can not all be exactly alike. There is always going to be something that is different. Do you get me? We are all who we are for a reason; we should not be seeking out the same pleasure or the same things. Yet so many people believe that they have to be a certain way just to fit in, just to be considered cool. So many girls today believe that the only way they can be considered cool is id they dress and act like Paris Hilton, or some other celebrity. In not going to say that it is as bad as it was when I was younger but its still up there. When I was younger I would always see other girls, as in 5th and 6th graders(because that’s how high my elementary school when up to) trying to act like the Spice Girls, always putting their hair in high buns with ribbons, or high platforms shoes, and glittery make-up and shirts. I always thought it was cool since EVERYONE ELSE WAS DRESSING LIKE TJHAT. But now that I think of it, I think it is kind of foolish. Everyone thinking they have to dress and act like someone or a group of people is unbelievable.

Is what we think really our own thoughts?

Is what we think and what comes out of our mouths really what we think? We read so much, see so much and hear so much. Is the media taking over what we think? I think it is. We are conditioned into believe what we believe is true, we come into this world know things, knowing what is right and what is wrong. Now I am not saying that only media is coming into our head, but it is also our own parents. If it was not for them many of the things we believe in, would not exists in our lives as a “right” or “wrong” thing to do. But hey it has already been done. The media, television, and gossip is getting into our heads and controlling what we think; So many people, teens, and adults that do not do any activities stay home and watch television, or they read magazines, as you can tell nothing really happens to them but make them sacred or believe what they see or read, they are asleep. Not literally asleep, but they are asleep of the truth; they can not awake from believing everything they hear or see. This is a major problem. Now some people are awake! They do not necessarily believe everything thing they hear, read about, or see on television. I for one do not see very much television because I am always busy with club volleyball. For that I am not MEDIA CRAZY! And I’m awake of the media; I am aware that there are problems in the world, yet I do not really see the television and believe everything I hear. The television makes it seem when there is a problem the world is going to end. So many individuals trust and believe in their televisions, and they end up getting what they want, which is because when the media has their own information so they can twist it in every single way they want, making it not totally true.

What Makes A Woman "Beautiful"?

I just read an article on what makes a “beautiful” woman. I put “beautiful” in quotations because I think that what is “beautiful” it is different in everyone s eyes. The anonymous writer who wrote this article starts that “there are two types of beauty. There’s physical beauty and there’s is emotional beauty. Now I do not fully agree with this writer. But he mentions that the most important beauty is the physical beauty, the way she looks, and her physical attraction. Do you agree with this? If so why? He or she also says that “some women are born beautiful. These are natural beauties. Some others attempt to attain beauty by use of cosmetics. These are man-made beauties. Whatever the case if you’re a beautiful woman, you’re beautiful. It does not matter if you got it from birth or through artificial toning”. I agree with this in a way but also at the same time I do not… I do not believe that if you are not physically attractive then you’re not “beautiful”. I believe that everyone is” beautiful” in different ways, weather it is physically, the character the person has, the charm, her smile, the way she thinks, or maybe even her classiness. It all depends on the person, the girl, herself. The emotional beauty that the writer starts is brought out by saying that emotional beauties are “adorable.”, why can’t they be “beautiful”? Maybe because they are not physically attractive? He says that emotional beauties are “loving and caring”, “humble”, “hardworking”, “kind and full of goodness”, and has “self-control”, they are saying that girls that are physically attractive have not self-control, they are not hardworking and they are not kind and full of goodness, those are stereotype, they are putting on “physically attractive” people and on “emotional attractive” people. In one point of the article the writer says that one who is “physically attractive can never have a successful love relationship”. Why do you think he/she states that? One can, I believe, be physically attractive and still be very beautiful with her inner self qualities.

Experience

Today at my school we had a workshop day, in which we cut classes and learn about a specific topic. Today it was on feeling comfortable with yourself and knowing who you are. I was really glad that they did this topic. One problem that I had was that they only did it to the freshman class, why? They told us that they only wanted to do it to us was because we’re still on comfortable with ourselves. Yet when we did this one activity where all the boys where in one room and all the girls where in a different we talked about self image and how we feel about the way we look. One of the girls who organized this event was in a higher grade, but she told us confidential that she was not happy with the way she looked. Its not only the freshman that do not feel comfortable with themselves its anyone who does not feel comfortable. It can happen at any age. While we were going around the room saying what we did not like about our selves, all I heard was negativity things, but yet everyone in that room was SO BEAUTIFUL! There was nothing that they should have been ashamed about! And I know that what people think about themselves is so hard on them, all they look at is the negative things. WHY DO US GIRLS ALWAYS DO THIS? We look at all the negative things and not the positive things. We talked about why we think this; we came to the conclusion that we are being pressured into it by boys and other girls. Boys have their thoughts on what makes a “beautiful” girl, which pressures the girl into looking like that, looking like the “beautiful” girl that guys like. Also we came to the conclusion that a lot of the self confidence that we don’t have is because we are always trying to battle other girls. So many people think that the only thing that matters is looks. This can make girls feel they always have to look good when they pass by a guy. In the boys room they were talking about what makes a boy. What they came up with is that they have to do everything, they have to be the tough guy, stand up for what they believe in. they said that they feel the same pressure as us girls.

Now I think this is a problem! No one should feel as if they are being pressured into having to act and look “beautiful” or “tough”!

Today in teen magazines you see so many stories on who wore the dress better. Do you think that these voting’s are giving teens of today an image of what they should dress like? I think it is! It is having girls and even boys condition into thinking that there is only one way of dressing.

Today so many teens read magazines and they read all about the new cool things coming out, all the latest fashion trends, what’s cute, and what’s not. But all of this is coming from one persons perspective, or a group of peoples ideas, it is not what you think, or what another might think. And yet so many girls and boys believe that this is the only way of being cool. They automatically believe if you follow the trends and put your hair the way that Ashley Olsen does ,then you’re "beautiful", and if you dress and act like Zac Efron then you “cool”, but is that true? Of course not, But it’s so hard for teens not to believe those things, especially when they see it everyday of their lives. But why do you think the media keeps doing this? Do they really want to fill all of our heads with nonsense and crap that we don not need. I read magazines all the time, their fun, you read about you favorite stars, (and they keep you busy when you are at an airport for 6 hours!) but I never really read them and believe everything I read. Just because I see some famous star that is really thin, I do not automatically believe that they are “beautiful”, and neither do I believe that a guy, who is buff, is “hot”! I have my own Ideas of what’s beautiful, and what’s hot, its going to be different on what another thinks, I guess what I’m trying to say is that many people believe and have different ideas on things, which they should since all of our thoughts are individualized and that not everyone can or should feel and seek out the same beliefs and thoughts as everyone else. BE YOURSELF!
